DJ prices Cheshire

Perhaps many people shop on price when it comes to DJ’s, and no doubt there are plenty of mobile DJ’s competing for the work, but is shopping based on price really an advantage for the end user? Well, firstly, without even taking experience of the DJ into account, lets take a look at the very basic elements, sound quality and reliability of the DJ speakers for the first instance and example. The DJ’s speakers are probably the last thing on a clients mind when they consider booking a DJ, but upon further reading this short article it may evoke some food for thought. We have all been to a function where the music is ear piercing and it’s almost impossible to hear people or even have a conversation without intimately leaning into each other. Ear piercing sound quality is all too often the sign of a cheap set of speakers. It’s pretty surprising how a pair of cheap speakers can reach such volumes, but high volume and bad quality are certainly not ideal for the enjoyment of music at any celebration and headache springs to mind. The high volumes of cheap speakers can be very short lived too and the result can be overheating resulting in cutting out or a complete failure of one or even both speakers. Just like you, DJ’s are also guilty of shopping for products based on price. However, the truth is, you get what you pay for in pretty much all areas of life and DJ equipment is flooded with various manufacturers claiming to produce ‘professional’ speakers. The very definition of professional when it comes to speakers should certainly mean robust, quality and total reliability, but all too often, manufacturers are pretty flippant with the word ‘professional’ Buying cheap is a total compromise on reliability and quality. A single pair of quality and reliable speakers that can handle high volumes with clarity and reliability will cost between £2500 - £5000 for a pair, yet some DJ’s will budget for anything from a few hundred to just under £1000. I can almost hear you say ‘how much!’ I know the real difference from real experience; I too am guilty of shopping on price with disastrous and unsatisfactory results. Wisdom and hind sight has taught me well, after a short break from being a DJ when my first child was born back in the year 2000 and at the same time having a cancer scare in the shape of a throat tumor due to passive smoking through working in smoky pubs and clubs, I eventually returned to the world of being a DJ when the smoking ban came into affect. My return to the profession meant having to buy brand new equipment and naturally, to get back into the game, I purchased some budget speakers. During a charity event and literally 1 week after purchase is the first time I experienced speaker failure. Luckily, I have always been someone who plans for something going wrong and I had a backup speaker. After this event, I went on to experience various issues with the cheaper speakers. Even after trying various manufacturers around the same price range, I was totally unsatisfied with the sound quality and the constant breakdowns and I finally bit the bullet and invested heavily into high-end speakers. The difference was not only piece of mind, but also the reliability; confidence and the amazing sound quality soon brought me to the conclusion of always buying only the best. Purchasing high-end professional equipment comes at a financial premium; therefore, the only way to maintain such robust and high quality equipment is to charge a reasonable rate that would enable me to keep this standard. So, the question has to be asked, if your DJ is charging very little, how do they fund their equipment? Is it reliable? Will it sound amazing? And more importantly, will it break down on the night, and is your DJ earning enough to purchase a backup for the inevitable breakdown? These questions generate even more questions about the budget DJ? Does your DJ have a vehicle big enough to carry backup equipment for those ‘just in case’ nightmares? Many DJ’s use their family car, naturally, cars are limited on space, so surely this means it would be very difficult to carry spare equipment, not to mention it’s impossible to get valid vehicle insurance on a car for carrying sound and light equipment. What happens if the police pull over the DJ in their car on the way to your event? Yep, you guessed it, the police will seize the car, and this unfortunate scenario may even result in an unforgivable no show for your event. In conclusion, a professional DJ has to have a fair size van with breakdown cover and spare equipment to ensure complete reliability. Maintaining a commercial vehicle and robust professional high-end equipment all cost money, but the results are a true processional service. So, lets ask the question again? Does shopping on price really reflect value for money? Booking a cheap DJ kind of reminds me of the dirty harry film, the scene where a criminal is staring down the wrong end of a Magnum 45 held by Clint Eastwood and Clint asks the question ‘do you feel lucky’
